Science and the Seven Wisdoms of Life
December 2nd, 2010 deregt

On the 2nd of December it will be time to continue the journey of the Last Lecture series as Herman de Regt joins us from the Philosophy Department of Tilburg University to share his insights and thoughts.
Herman de Regt is an associate professor in philosophy of science, Tilburg University

“To be an admirer of science doesn’t come easy. To stay in touch with everything that we have discovered and are discovering about life, the universe, and everything (to borrow a title from the Hitchhiker’s Guide to the Galaxy series) is simply impossible. Still, the very idea of science can also capture your mind in a more general sense. I feel assured that with science close at hand everything that there is to know lies – in principle – within reach. I believe in science, and if you are not a believer yet, I want you to start believing. In my evangelical talk I will tell you how I came to believe in science. To understand the scientific worldview and what it can do for you, you need to be introduced to the seven crucial wisdoms that make life livable:

(1) praise curiosity,
(2) adore teachers,
(3) discover science,
(4) teach children,
(5) preach agnosticism,
(6) support society and
(7) live to die.”
