First They Killed My Father (2017) follows the childhood story of Loung Ung, a Cambodian author and human rights activist, during the rule of the infamous Khmer Rouge. During their horrific four-year reign under the leadership of Pol Pot, nearly 2 million Cambodians were killed and many more faced famine and suffering. Loung Ung managed to survive these horrors and later decided to offer a personal account of her experiences in her book, which this movie is an adaptation of.

If you would like to learn more about this period of Cambodian history don’t hesitate to join us on November 11th, 19:30 at the Dante Common Room.
